Does CBD Help The Lymphatic System or Use It?
At Science-Rite, we believe that scientific knowledge is a powerful tool for supporting wellness. Learning about our bodies' internal processes and how to care for them is the best way to maintain full-body health.
Often in conversations about health, the lymphatic system is neglected because not many people understand its importance. However, it plays a crucial role in our full-body wellness - and in the absorption of cannabidiol (CBD), a compound celebrated for its potential benefits.
What Is the Lymphatic System?
The lymphatic system is responsible for some of the critical functions that keep us alive and healthy. It’s part of the immune and circulatory systems, including the tonsils, spleen, thymus gland, and lymph nodes. Also known as the body's drainage or sewage system, it doesn't just protect us from illness. It is also in charge of functions like:
• Maintaining fluid levels
• Absorbing fats and fatty acids from the digestive system
• Sustaining a healthy cardiovascular system
• Handling cancer cells
The Lymphatic System & Full-Body Health
In each of our bodies, blood plasma makes up more than half (55%) of the blood volume. The amber-colored liquid is made not of blood cells, but of proteins and other components of whole blood.
When blood circulates through our bodies, that blood plasma leaves the vessels and ends up in tissues to deliver oxygen, protein, and hormones to cells. As it delivers those nutrients, plasma also removes waste products of cell metabolism from the tissues and gives that waste to the organs that handle its disposal.
Most of that fluid is transported back into the blood circulation, but about 10% stays behind and becomes lymph. Lymph, the extra fluid that forms when blood plasma and other interstitial tissue fluids drain into the lymphatic system, moves into lymph vessels where it can reach the lymph nodes.
The lymph nodes then filter lymph with lymphocytes, or white blood cells, that collect and destroy dangerous bacteria, viruses, and cancer cells. That filtration is an essential part of the immune system, vital for keeping us healthy.
Lymphatic functions like filtration, fluid level maintenance, dietary fat absorption, and others are only possible when the lymphatic system is working at its fullest potential. A lymphatic system working at limited capacity due to blockages, infections, or disease may lead to issues like lymphedema, chronic fatigue, depression, and even cancer.
CBD and a Healthy Lymphatic System
The best way to maintain the health of your lymphatic system is with wellness tools like a whole-food diet, exercise, and overall reduction of environmental toxins. However, the CBD compound may give us other important insight on how best to support the lymphatic system.
We know that CBD interacts with the lymphatic system for a few reasons. First, what we know about the endocannabinoid system (ECS) tells us that CBD and the lymphatic system go hand-in-hand. The ECS is another regulatory network within the body, but it's in charge of the homeostasis of different functions. It regulates:
• Sleep
• Mood
• Immunity
• Appetite
• Memory
• Pain
• Inflammation
• Reproduction
When CBD makes it inside the body, it likely interacts with cannabinoid receptors. These receptors are present in the brain, digestive, and lymphatic systems and help cannabinoids like CBD take the necessary action to address issues in the body.
Second, some of the most efficient forms of CBD (Nano-Amplified and Nano-Emulsified or Water-Soluble CBD) use the lymphatic system as a distribution network. When ingested, those fast-acting forms of CBD can be absorbed into the lymphatic system because they are either bonded to a Long-Chain Triglyceride (LCT) or are water-soluble and can be directly absorbed.
With our knowledge of the intake process of Nano-Amplified and Water-Soluble CBD, we've seen just how important the lymphatic system is for the absorption and delivery of cannabidiol.
Conclusion
Maintaining full-body wellness involves caring for every part of the body, including the lymphatic system. Along with learning about this system, we want to help you stay informed about CBD and the science behind its potential benefits so you can feel empowered to reach your health goals.
